Lavington Industrial Plant

Industrial

Lavington, British Columbia

The Lavington Industrial Plant, now known as the Home Hardware Wood Manufacturing Plant, is situated within the Restoration Lands Eco Park in the Okanagan, forming part of a broader vision for an environmentally sustainable industrial complex. Set between an abandoned railway spur line to the east and the Eco Park to the south, the facility occupies a unique threshold between industry and landscape. From its inception, the project sought to challenge traditional notions of industrial architecture. Rather than asserting a heavy or closed-off presence, the design embraces its surroundings—reflecting the environmental values of the Eco Park and contributing positively to its character.

The administrative building serves as the public face of the facility and is organized around two distinct entrances: one welcoming administrative staff and visitors, and the other guiding workers through the office wing toward the production floor. This circulation strategy reinforces a sense of connection rather than separation between administration and manufacturing. While the production facility is constructed as a pre-engineered structure, the administrative building is wood-framed, intentionally showcasing the very wood products fabricated on site. Throughout both buildings, generous daylight and framed views maintain a constant visual dialogue with the surrounding landscape, grounding the industrial program within its natural context.
