LAVINGTON PLANT
LAVINGTON INDUSTRIAL PLANT
LOCATION: Lavington, British Columbia
SIZE: 4 200sm
STATUS: Under Construction
Design Requirements
The Lavington Industrial Plant site was bounded on the east side by a now abandoned railway spur line and on the south by Restoration Land Eco-Park, an environmentally sustainable industrial park. The plant needed to be an innovative and natural addition to the community.
Solution
The building was clad in standing seam metal and Kalwall, a lightweight, semi-transparent wall system that manages glare and light into the office and industrial area while providing a work environment that was naturally lit throughout. At night, this material transformed the plant into a beacon, radiating a warm glow. The plant had a sense of lightness instead of the typical heaviness most industrial plants are associated with.
The other main material, the metal standing seam, provided not only a durable exterior for a long-lasting building but allowed for the future installation of PV panels.
